A web browser is a tool that allows access to any kind of information such as articles, images, photos, videos, music, etc. found on the website present on the World Wide Web. The web page is created by writing its code. HTML is used to design the pages of the website. The web browser has been created so that people living in any corner of the world get knowledge of everything. Web browsers have been present in computers since the invention of the Internet. In the years 1900-90, when Tim Berners-Lee was working on a way to share information on computers, he made this task easier through hyperlinks. The hyperlink is a command of HTML language which is used in the text written on the web page.
A hyperlink is a piece of text that contains the address of another webpage. On clicking that link, the browser takes us to another web page. Tim Berners-Lee created the HTML language to get the data or information on the computer to another computer. HTML is written in special commands, which are completely different and easier than other programming languages. These special commands are known as HTML tags.
Those pages are created using these jacks. However, the problem was that not everyone could understand these texts. So he created software that could read HTML text and display information in the appropriate language to the users. This software was named Browser, which is also known as a web browser.
The name of the world’s first web browser was the World Wide Web, which was later changed to Nexus. In 1900 93, a new web browser named Mosaic was created by Mark Andrew Seal and his team. It was the first browser at that time that could display text and images simultaneously on the device screen. Because of this new feature, people from all over the world started using the Mosaic web browser.
The very next year, in 1994, Mark Anderson created another web browser on his own based on Mosaic, which he named Netscape Navigator. Shortly after the launch of this web browser, it reached the computer devices of 90% of Internet users around the world.
In 1919, Microsoft launched a web browser called Internet Explorer to compete with the Netscape Navigator browser, which was provided free of charge with the Windows operating system package. Internet users were getting the facility to use Internet Explorer for free. That’s why no one made the mistake of paying to use Netscape Navigator. That’s why Netscape Navigator departed from the web browser world for the same reason.
After that, gradually many big web browsers were created with new features such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera, UC Browser, etc. All these web browsers have made their special place in people’s devices. There are small differences in these web browsers but the work of all of them is to surf the internet. More than one web browser can be used on one computer and mobile devices.
And you know how a friend web browser works? The web browser works on a client-server model. When we search for any information on the Internet, the browser prepares a list of websites in which the information asked by the user is available to view that information. When the user clicks on one of the websites in that list, the browser contacts the server of that website to fetch the request files and display them on the user’s device screen. Here the user’s device acts as a client and the website acts as a server which helps in delivering the information. The web browser works to bring all kinds of data and information on the Internet to the user’s computer screen. All this data is written in the language of the computer, which is called HTML.
HTML language is easily understood by the web browser which translates this language and brings the requested data by the user to the screen so that the internet user can easily read the contents. Different types of rules have to be followed to fetch data from the internet. These rules are called protocols. The HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) protocol is used in HTML, which helps the browser to communicate with the server. HTTP tells the web server how to format the content of the webpage to be delivered to the user. With the help of HTTP, clients and servers are allowed to connect with each other. All the web browsers present on the Internet, which keep websites and web pages with them, support the HTTP protocol. Only then the browsers can easily give all the information to the users by connecting with them.
When a user enters a web address on the address bar of a browser Windows such as www.facebook.com. Then the browser first interacts with the DNS domain name server. In the example given here, the domain name is facebook.com. The DNS server holds the IP address of the web browser connected to the domain name i.e. Facebook.com. An IP address is the address of a web server where requested web pages are stored. The DNS server assigns this IP address to the web browser. After that, the browser sends this address to the web server. After giving the address, the browser connects with the web server where all the data of Facebook is present. From there the browser removes the request web page and shows all the information on the user’s screen and in this way, a user gets all the information.
